Jayden Solomon

Sgt. Elwood Solomon was truly a great example of a quality law enforcement officer. Solomon served his community for 36 years receiving many awards and honors for going above and beyond the call of duty. Including when off duty he saw a boy fall through the ice at the lake. Immediately and with total disregard for his own safety, Solomon dove into the frozen lake and rescued the boy from drowning. He received the “merit award” from the policeman’s benevolent association for his heroic act. A newspaper article about

Solomon stated that he single-handedly arrested nine men holding baseball bats who were going after a man they had shot following a break-in at Philadelphia Village apartments. Speaking to the  interviewer, Solomon said, “I had a couple incidents where I felt my life was in danger and had to pull my gun many times, but fortunately, I

never had to fire it”. He became the fatal accident expert. He also instructed his fellow officers in the use of radar, control, and restraint, defensive tactics, non-impact weapons and CPR and first aid. He has

delivered numerous babies, some in cars and some at home- “maybe a half-dozen with no complications”, he stated. “They would offer to name their kids after me, but I always said no”, he added. “Who wants to name their kid Elwood?” Sgt. Solomon was a first responder during 9/11. He put in his time at ground zero helping tirelessly

even at the age of 57 years old at the time. It was determined by doctors that the lung cancer that eventually took his life and stole

him away from his loving wife Sally and his young son Jayden was due to the contaminates he breathed in at ground zero.

So we honor and remember you Sgt. Elwood Solomon. Thank you for the decades of service and being an exemplary officer of the law. In your memory we hope to honor you by showing your son, he is also not forgotten and we will do our best to be a helping and encouraging force throughout his life.

Jayden's Future is in Our Hands

Jayden Solomon is an outstanding example of a child who perseveres through adversity. I personally met this young man when my wife and I took he and his wonderful mother Sally out to dinner to get to know them. It was our opportunity to learn more about his hero father and the great job his mother Sally is doing, raising this nice boy as a single mother. Just as I was raised by my own mother, without my father able to be there. Sally explained that Jayden was home with his father Elwood when he passed away from cancer attributed to the contaminates in the air at ground zero. Elwood was a first responder at 9/11. Jayden was only 4 years old when he lost his father. Sally explained that Jayden has been in karate since he was 4 years old. She said her son is having a book published with his story in it. He has been selected this year to be in the leadership program at school. Sally explained that he loves anything “aviation” with World War 2 planes. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to aircraft and warplanes. He wants to become a pilot when he grows up. That list is impressive for anyone, but keep in mind this motivated young man is only 11 years old. Surf Hogs American charities is proud to not only know this great child, but to pledge to help him stay on track through his adolescence and into manhood. If his life’s goal is to become a pilot, we want to help him attain his dream and be there the day he pulls back on the yoke and takes to the sky.
